1. ACA FAQ: I heard the deadline to enroll was extended; can I still buy health insurance?

Answer: You may still enroll in a qualified health plan through the federal Marketplace after midnight on March 31st if you are in the process of submitting your application before the deadline. Just like Election Day, if you are in line when the polls close you get to vote – but if you have not started your application prior to March 31st, you have to wait until the next Open Enrollment Period which is scheduled for November 15, 2014 – February 15, 2015.

To find out if you can still complete your qualified health plan application, call the federal Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596. Please see below if you live in Nevada, Colorado or Kentucky.

Please note that state-based marketplaces have their own requirements. You can find more information about your state marketplace here.

  2. ACA FAQ: I haven’t enrolled in a qualified health plan yet, can I still buy one?

Answer: You may still enroll in a qualified health plan if you have a life event that involves a change in your family status (for example, marriage or birth of a child) or loss of other health coverage. You must enroll in a qualified health plan within 60 days of the life event or loss of other health coverage – this is called the Special Enrollment Period. For a complete list of qualifying life events, click here or call the federal Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596, unless you live in Kentucky, Nevada or Colorado.

If you do not have a qualifying life event, you may purchase a qualified health plan during the next Open Enrollment Period which is scheduled for November 15, 2014 – February 15, 2015.

  3. ACA FAQ: I have a qualifying life event, how do I enroll in a health insurance plan on the federal Marketplace or change my current plan from federal Marketplace?

Answer: If you currently have health insurance that you purchased on the federal Marketplace, you will need to make changes to your plan through the Marketplace. This can be done by calling the federal Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 or, call your state marketplace if you live in Nevada, Colorado or Kentucky.

If you don’t currently have health insurance and are eligible for financial assistance, you will need to purchase health insurance through the federal Marketplace. This can be done by calling the federal Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 or, call your state marketplace.
